ABOUT
Martha is a professional textile designer and home sewing enthusiast.
In her career as a designer, she has created custom fabrics for many companies over the past 15 years, including Diane von Furstenberg, Tibi, DKNY, and Kate Spade Saturday, where Martha’s colorful, splashy prints defined the brand’s cheerful aesthetic. As a textile designer, she specializes in high end, unique prints, tailored to the tastes of each brand - this includes all aspects of design from creating inspiration boards, hand drawing & painting, digitizing artwork and creating flawless repeats, and partnering with development teams to ensure the best results in production.
Martha holds a BFA in textiles from the Rhode Island School of design, where she learned to weave both by hand and more computerized methods, hand and machine knitting, and all manner of surface design techniques, from hand screen printing to digital printing. While earning a BA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design, Martha took pattern drafting class in the School’s Fashion department. This blend of skills set her up for a successful career in New York.
Martha loves bringing her design process and sensibility into the sewing room. She has sewn since childhood, constantly honing her craft and educating herself about her favorite hobby whenever possible. She first taught herself to sew with the aid of McCall’s patterns and her trusty, clunky White sewing machine instruction manual at age 12. When Martha graduated from high school in 2001, her parents gave her the wonderful gift of a BERNINA 153 QE sewing machine, which she has sewn with ever since.
As of late 2022, Martha is a BERNINA sewing machine Ambassador, and is currently sewing on the brand new B735 machine! Watch this space as well as the blog at WeAllSew.com for her creative projects and technical advice for working with this incredible machine.
You can see more of Martha and her sewing in various magazines, including Sew News Magazine, Simply Sewing Magazine, and Mollie Makes Magazine, as well as on countless blogs and articles highlighting her creativity.
This blog is a space for Martha to share her creative endeavors, material selections, musings, shopping guides, and pattern reviews. Please get in touch if you’d like to work together.
