ABOUT
Martha is a professional textile designer and home sewing enthusiast.
In her career as a designer, she has created custom fabrics for many companies over the past 15 years, including Diane von Furstenberg, Tibi, DKNY, and Kate Spade Saturday, where Martha’s colorful, splashy prints defined the brand’s cheerful aesthetic. As a textile designer, she specializes in high end, unique prints, tailored to the tastes of each brand - this includes all aspects of design from creating inspiration boards, hand drawing & painting, digitizing artwork and creating flawless repeats, and partnering with development teams to ensure the best results in production.
Martha holds a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of design, where she learned hand weaving and computerized jacquard, hand and machine knitting, and all manner of surface design techniques, from screen printing to digital printing. While earning her degree, Martha took pattern drafting class in the School’s Fashion department. This blend of skills set her up for a successful career in New York.
Martha brings her design process and elevated sensibility into the sewing room. She is known for her enthusiasm for materials and techniques - she is equally comfortable with heirloom methods such as pin tucks and inserted lace as she is with more the more modern methods used in speed tailoring a wool coat. She loves to share knowledge and demystify complex projects by demonstrating each step. Welcome to her sewing room, where she will teach and inspire you!
