Painting color
I've been painting a lot lately - often, it is the first thing I do in the morning. I spread out my drop cloth, pull out my brushes and a fresh sheet of paper, and I get going. My paintings are mostly about color. Right now, I see painting as an exercise, a good way to warm up my brain and stretch my ideas.
When I was a student at RISD, I had Al DeCredio as a professor. Not everyone liked him, but I loved his class, and looked forward to it every week. He made us work on the floor, he wanted us to be messy, and he would push all of your buttons (he once made me cry). Al would tell you to make the same painting 100 times, or until you had finished making it. That always made sense to me.
